After the Cape Argus was all focus shifted to my big race of the year, the Aspen Trans Karoo 240km endurance race from Ceres to Sutherland. Lead and I decided to use it as individuals to tackle, but still travel together. If you are riding as a team and make your rymaat not finished, then do not you think the "finisher" medal. We have no idea what is waiting for us, how we will handle and whether we will ever finish. Every weekend for the Argus was 4-5 hours per day in the hall, and every weekday morning in progress remained with normal practice. See attached chart of total km's jogging, road bike and mountain bike. Many hours!
At this stage of the busy year so far, my weight stabilized at 79 to 80 kg and I knew what things work and what not. A week leave before the Trans Karoo also helped the logistical part of the race was better controlled. Believe me, a lot of logistics with all our family in Sutherland!
Horse to feed - HILGE We Khoivisse to feed on the Thursday before the Trans Karoo booked into Blesfontein Guest Farm just about 30 km from Sutherland. What a fantastic place! The silence of that world is indescribable and the nights are dark. Friday was a family day on the farm for the afternoon we had to register in Sutherland. Accommodation - We Blesfontein Blesfontein plains hosts for our stay was to Blesfontein Nicol and Marina van der Merwe. The accommodation was fantastic. Nicol offers himself a "stargazing" night where you can hear a lot of interesting facts about the sky and the telescope can see. We will definitely be during the winter again turn when it really is cold! It apparently gets to -10 degrees Celsius there! At the bottom of the Ouberg Pass I felt there spraying liquid on my leg, my back wheel had a stone in the tanks with pierced band and we had to stop a "plug" to deploy. It was my first and Pilot's "plug" so we were really excited when it works! From there we just drove by CP2 also SP1 was coming at 95 km. We knew we had the women and children there and we can quickly go through cycles, something to eat and drive again. That point has taken an eternity to come. At just before 11:00 we arrived and about 20 minutes delay. The kids were obviously thrilled to see us and it was a very nice feeling. Tankwa Padstal to 170 km from here, the real race begins. The legs began to feel they have traveled and the first few climbs have arrived. The wind was not so quiet. We knew the next CP at 145 km, which includes light lunch would be. We only kept reserved against our speed and the length of time in the hall its toll. Finally after like an eternity, we turned to CP3. There is face washing, bottles filled and ate potatoes. So 15 minutes later we were back in the hall have been the next CP and SP2 was, after all, only 25 km to 170 km. Now the wind was strong from the front.
