BOSTON blood in urine (St). Incidence blood in urine and outcome of cardiac arrests during marathons and half-marathons in the United States have now researchers at the Harvard Medical School studied blood in urine (NEJM 2012; 366: 130). They questioned survivors and dependents of deceased and analyzed data from the Race Associated blood in urine Cardiac Arrest Event Registry (RACER).
Then from 2000 to 2010 were of 10.9 million runners 59 cardiac arrest (0.54 / 100,000), 42 of them died there. With 31 runners, the cause has been determined for the cardiac blood in urine arrest. Result: eight had a hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, with a further seven suspected it was.
Nine runners joined to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a disease such as whether additional constructive CHD, myocarditis, blood in urine aortic or cardiac anomaly, atrial-ventricular accessory pathways and hyperthermia.
Cause of death in runners without left ventricular hypertrophy were hyponatremia, hyperthermia, arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy or primary arrhythmia. Little deaths in marathon and half-marathon
Survivors blood in urine of cardiac arrest were on average older than those who have died (53 vs. 34 years), had more experience with long-distance running and were medically treated better. In five out of eight of the surviving athletes ischemic heart disease was found.
Conclusion: Compared to other sports, there are relatively few deaths in long distance races. blood in urine The incidence of sudden death in marathon and half-marathon is 1/259 000 compared to 1/43 700 in high school sports, 1/52630 and 1/7620 triathlon jogging (middle-aged runners).
86 percent of deaths in long distance races concerned men. This is explained by the fact that an (unidentified) hypertrophic cardiomyopathy often meet men and in younger years included atherosclerosis at them in comparison.
Psychosocial factors: Every fifth CHD patient is severely depressed CHD plus sleep apnea: signal for longer life with PAP overweight: Pregnant endanger her heart heart-Op: Statins do not protect against complications Early Heart Attack: smoking is the dominant risk factor ESC Congress: heart disease and depressed - not a good prognosis ST-elevation myocardial blood in urine infarction: Better prognosis for immediate therapy of all stenoses hsCRP: Note on prognosis in diastolic heart failure survival: men smoke nine years Comment: A huge success in heart failure therapy
