I came across a nice interactive chart of things that are poisonous to dogs. Especially coughing the time of year when more people are at home, and more food, and eating, it is useful to know what you are away from your dog to keep.
One chart is about things that are generally toxic to your dog can be. These include: garlic, chocolate, grapes, beer, onions, tea, yeast (in raw bread dough, for example) and macadamia nuts. Even just four or five of the nuts can cause neurological symptoms, coughing and even kidney damage.
The other chart shows how much and what chocolate can poison your dog. This is mainly theobromine symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, palpitations, rapid breathing, tremors, seizures and coma may result. White chocolate like a milky bar has the least risk as there is almost nothing more cocoa in it, the darker the chocolate, the more toxic. You can move around the scale to see how much damage can be dependent on the weight of the dog. I found it very informative. Between brackets to people, it is the very theobromine that makes chocolate so healthy to eat (as in the papers published, it always leaves people on diets so relieved ;)). It makes blood vessels more open, is diureties (makes you pee more - useful for high blood pressure, coughing via a complex cascade coughing of enzymes and hormones) and stimulate the heart muscles. But that money rather dark chocolate, not a Mars bar not!

I'm (not) a veterinarian and usually write about things that interest me, of animal diseases to vegans recipes. I also like talking to people about their pets' problems, but I insist that if your animal is really sick, take him or her to a vet right. If you have a pet you would like to be well prepared to care for money to invest. The internet is a fantastic thing, but I can not give you a diagnosis and treatment through the matrix does not!
